She was Joan of Arc to many..don't forget when she did this she was the first - she went to Denmark with no money and went because she was desperate to become a whole person..

well, even though plenty of people medically transitioned before her (FTMs back to the 1930's, MTFs a bit earlier I think), most people didn't know about it before her. a family member told the media when she had one of her surgeries in Europe, and from the time she hit US soil for about three years there was constant media sensationalism about her. a lot of individual people were curious about this, but just accepted her as a woman and that was that. others, opposite. some places banned her!

I've just finished listening to the full interview you linked to. I'm in awe. I'm amazed that a person with GID could have matured to such a well adjusted woman in the 40s and 50s. What a piece of work is she! And it appears her family were very accepting of her. This too is astonishing. I'm so glad i came across this video. Thaks so much, TheDragonGuy, for posting it. |
