The dalits are India's outcasts, condemned from birth by a rigid caste system. They live in constant fear of arson, beatings and worse inflicted on them by social superiors desperate to protect their caste privileges. These are the poorest of India's poor. The untouchables. Pawns in a power struggle being waged in India's Hindu heartland. Poverty stricken, powerless, and under attack from every quarter, many dalits are turning to Communist guerrillas for help. But the battles are only getting bloodier."The dalits are dirty and they are small. We pay them and then they can die", states landlord, Jintander. He belongs to the warrior caste and is at the top of village hierarchy. He rarely talks to his dalit servants as they fulfil their traditional role in life, cleaning excrement from his courtyard floor. Dalit are not allowed to enter his house. In fact, Jintander values them below his buffalos

Dont be ignorant cow urine is an antisceptic and all organized religions are guilty of what you accuse Hindus of.Like many religions there are alot of problems with the Hindu religion just like all others.Let us just hope we can all see the ignorance in alot of our religions. Alot of the time humanity uses religion to further their selfish ambitions. The founders of the religions perhaps had different ideas. This could be the case with the ancient Hindu religion.

the caste system is still, to an extent, alive today, though it is legally banned. But now it's like any other country-poor or rich, dark or light. But Hinduism wanted caste but in a good way, so that everyone would be cared for. And caste wasn't, according to hinduism, supposed to be heredictory. But we messed it up. Then became ok,kind of. But we must stop discrimination! Just getting your facts straight.

BTW, some Dalits have even been appointed as temple priests in recent times & there has even been a court ruling that caste is no bar to getting trained & appointed as a priest.

The current day caste-ism practiced in India is a Socio-economic/political system that has PERMEATED ALL RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES & this SOCIAL EVIL is propagated by people who want a hegemony of power, &endorsed by Muslims &christian conquerers who wrongly choose to link Hindusim and caste-ism so that they can convert people. Excerpt from article "Dereserve these myths" by Tanwar Fazal"Yet another group recorded in the 1901 Census was 'arzal', populatedby the lowest castes, such as the halalkhor, lalbegi, abdal andbediya, "with whom no other Muhammadan would associate, and who areforbidden to enter the mosque or to use the public burial ground".Certainly, Dalit Muslims are the arzals, mostly engaged in scavengingor in other occupations considered unclean."
