For more information on Abundance Genie, please visit the Web page at: http://www.clydesight.com/DSPP... the late 1960's, General Electric produced a line of 3-inch reel to reel tape recorders for the general public using a similar case design. The M-8000 is probably the worst machine of the line! Although the transport has very low wow and flutter, the machine has an odd control system that can allow the machine to turn itself on if bumped, and it has the lowest quality amplifier - fed by a crystal microphone - that I have seen in a vintage reel to reel tape recorder.Generally I look for the good in a vintage tape recorder, but in the case of "The General", I would have to demote it to Major -- Major Disappointment. This video shows the working of the machine and the internal transport mechanism as well as the tiny, and almost useless, 3 transistor amplifier. At a time when the "cassette wars" were waging and reel-to-reel needed good representation, this machine was a poor strategy and may have contributed to the decline of the reel to reel format.***********

The other recorder is a Miranda "Mirandette". I have a video here on YouTube called "Miranda Has Balls!" which shows it all. It's in my channel, or you can search for it by name. Enjoy.

What's the other recorder in this video? Have you done a video presentation of it? I'd like to see it.

The intro is funny. It's a nice looking recorder, shame about the quality.

Great intro, tape deck mash up, neat!

I have seen two other models in this design. They are all black (this one is gray/white). I saw one on E-Bay that had a fast forward option, leather carry case, and a REAL VU meter. It started at $49.00 with $25 shipping. That is too much for my wallet. Don't know if it worked or had AC bias, and for $75, my curiosity wasn't that strong. I found this as a BUY IT NOW and it was listed as not working. But it was cheap enough. I didn't realize the crummy amp in it.

I love the intro to this video.

AH! I had been wanting that one for a while, or at least one like it! But... I find out it's DC bias with THREE transistor amplifier!! Most RIM-drives use FOUR transistors! That is a dissapointment. But very neat looking machine, neat on the inside, and does have similar ways to classic AIWA. Did GE ever make an AC bias model in this style case? I'd like to get one if I saw one, but hopefully there's an AC bias version out there. The talking thing at the beginning was hilarious!
