Even though I enjoy all kinds of music, the old stuff like this is truly my favorite. The 50s and 60s were good, but 70s soft rock is the greatest in my mind.

Your statement is very true. There WERE many 70's singers who were pretty/handsome but there were many who were just good singers and they made it. Forget about it today. The MTV generation has killed the potential of ugly singers, if you don't believe me just google Milli Vanilli.

I still think there's good music today, but it's few and far from this music and generations past. You have to look good these day to be marketable.

The REASON music sucks today is because it's no longer about the music. There isn't any attention to classical melody or background. Love it or hate it, this music was "full". Every single member of the band had to "fill", in step with the song and melody. Music is supposed to be about composition - like a poem. Everything is just a part of the whole. Today, everything is just about the riff, or the "line". It's incomplete. Nobody will be watching videos of today's music 20 years from now.

You are the snook. Their is a culture shock now in America and in the past 20 years. Too many other things influences the music. You are ignorant for not realizing this. That is why the musical landscape has changed so much. Go back to your cave and stay there dork. In the 70's and 80's 90% of the musicians on the pop charts were of European decent. Try to dispute that poptart!

That's bullshit, the reason why music sucks today is because people don't talk about love anymore, everything is too free and easy, morals are looser. Women leave nothing to the imagination anymore. Songs in foreign languages still have love themes to their music we don't. Plus rap music became commercialized in the last 10 years and Clear Channel bought up most of the stations so they play the same shit every hour on the hour.......

I could call you an ignorant, musically illiterate snook, but buddy you've done an outstanding job here already in showing your feeble knowledge of musical history. Buddy Holly and Elvis openly acknowledged the influence of (reluctantly immigrant)African-American styles on their technique but then, of course, you've made a greater contribution to the American Songbook than those 'nobodies'. Idiot.

One of the greatest songs and memories of the early eighties for me....the video? Well, let's just say a lot of performers were ill at ease in front of the camera back then (remember the early INXS videos and Michael who did not know what to do with himself?---but later on mastered the art of video charisma)...But this song!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the song!!! |
