You gotta love all of the arm chair Admirals on here saying "this is fake" and "the explosion would be bigger."Please. You have been watching too many Hollywood movies, and obviously wouldn't know what a real explosion would look like if it went off in front of your face."That's not what it looks like in the movies!" *rollseyes*

In the US Navy, a Harpoon missile/s, or Exocet Missile in others, would be launched from a Sub, giving the enemy very little time to retaliate or evade.Cold-War Submariner

In reality though, a torpedo would not be the first choice to destroy a surface ship, they are generally used for attack on other Submarines. A torpedo takes too long to reach the desired target, would give the enemy ship time to retaliate before the torpedo reached them or might even miss it's target if countermeasures are used effectively.

FYI, this is exactly what a ship would look like when hit by a Mk48 torpedo, that is if you are lucky. If this ship had a full load of fuel and weapons the explosion would have been even greater. As another poster stated, modern submarine launched torpedoes are designed to "break the back" of the enemy ship causing greater structural damage than just blowing a hole in the side. Granted the hole would be quite large but the ship could feasibly still float and/or sail home and be repaired.

No no it is a remote controled destroyer. Fake the only way a ship blows up like that is if it is hit were the ammunition is kept. Even then this is a little exaggerated

Since when does the United States use modified Type 12 Destroyer Escorts, remote control or other? It was the former HMAS Torrens, torpedoed & sunk off the Western Australian coast.Oh, by the way, the submarine and MK 48 torpedo were every bit as real as the hapless ship in the video.Cheers...

That is a remote American destroyer. This is a propaganda video.

its just a remote destroyer, so stay cool. a real explosion looks different

wow breaks it like a chopstick

probably just poke a hole in it. they're designed to lift a ship's midsection out of the water and use its own weight to crush it in two. very destructive, AND entertaining to watch.
