technically, he's not using the past participle of to stand because he's not using a compound tense. you're right, though; stood is the past participle of stand.

what's to get? He got dumped and is projecting his anguish onto his ex via anger and is creating things that aren't there to get over her and replace her. That's the song. I did a cover of this, it's on my channel. I never said I didn't like the song, I'm just saying that stuff like this, Down the River of Golden Dreams and Stars too Small to Use are just... they aren't nearly as beautiful as Black Sheep Boy (and the Appendix) or The Stage Names... not a big fan of the Stand Ins, though.
