A good question - I bought it from a laboratory supply shop because I teach chemistry. You can buy potassium iodide from a herbalist/pharmacist but one pill only contains 35mg of potassium iodide so I don't know if it would be enough to set the reaction going. You could try using blood (from the butcher) because the catalase in that also causes hydrogen peroxide to decompose. It would make it all look pretty gruesome though! Halloween, perhaps?

It's proven to be wrong. It depends mostly of the shape (twist) of the canal. It could be possible to be from the spinning of the Earth, but you need a very large canal.

yes i noticed it. probably the same reason the toilet water spins clockwise in the northern hemisphere and counter clockwise in the southern hemisphere.
