Yes, exactly. I haven't seen MasterSam's Koshiki Rohai, but, since Matsumura is considered the one who invented Rohai, then I am assuming that it is one in the same kata. His instructor probably just refered to it as Koshiki Rohai for simplicity's sake. Might also be because he teaches all 3 of the Rohai forms and this one is considered the original. Most of the versions I see these days are within a few techniques and moves of what is considered the original. Hard to tell at this point tho.

Ah... so the "ko" in koshiki is the same as the "ko" in koryu. How do we know that this is an original or old style kata then? What is the lineage? Any idea?

Koshiki refers to the classical or "old version" of the kata. It's not a persons' name. Generally speaking, the original version that a kata, as it was originally conceieved and taught way back when, is the Koshiki version. Other masters along the way alter them in small ways to suit or better match their body types or teaching philosophies and thus put their name stamp on them.

Really, it's just one of the Tommari series of katas. The one I've used for my Yondan test was Yommari Bassai. Matsumura no Rohaicombines the Rohai movements with the base Tommari kata. I need to learn Matsumura Bassai for my go dan test in 2012.
