Brilliant film, supposedly Russia's answer to 2001:a space odyssey, with a running time of nearly 3 hours, is probably best viewed in parts due to the subtitles. Also, the book by Polish author Stanislaw Lem is well worth reading.

Tarkovsky is a true wizard. His images are great. It's all about focusing on the now, like a budhist does. Thanks for posting!

One of the best films ever made. I first saw it when it was shown on TV maybe 15 years ago - I thought I'd watch it as I like sci-fi. I was absolutely captivated by the vision of this unique director, and now I own all his films on DVD/VHS. I think that the US remake highlights the cultural differences between Russian and Western art: Tarkovsky focuses on the "inner life" of his characters, whereas Hollywood focuses more on the outward action, and romanticises/simplifies the plot.

people who liked Solaris-2002 AND people who DIDN'T like Solaris-2002, should watch this original piece! The MASTER-piece!... |
