I grew up with Danny. We graduated from Oxon Hill High School (1963) in Maryland. Danny used to play at a bar called Billy Jacks a lot. Billy Jacks was owned by Billy Underwood and others who also graduated with us. Danny we love you and R.I.P. We will miss you forever. Matt

the humbler is great but Redneck Jazz Explosion shows some superlative, cohesiveness improvising and Danny's tone was really nice and smooth...less trebly. then Buddy was off the chain too! the band was top notch...wish i could have seen them live

kaswy89 Ha great comment. I'll bet Gatton, and Lenny Breau, and Hendrix knew a heck of a lot about the instrument; I wish I did.

i don`t see why they compare him to Buchanan either cause Danny Gatton is obviously alot better !!this video may not show case Danny`s best work but you can get out is any cd cruisin dueces, elmira street, untouchables, and put in any of Roys and tell danny is better but you know what they say about opinions!!!!! danny is a god WAS

Wow. I've heard people say this before but I still can't understand how folks can think of Gatton as musically average. He does play a ton of "licks" but, IMO, it's because he was so good that ordinary licks and riffs just weren't interesting to him. He was always pushing the boundaries of what is an "acceptable and proper" style of playing. If you want to hear his melodic, Roy-esque side, check out Harlem Nocturne or Sleepwalk. He was tasteful when he needed to be and that's what counts.

the guy who called gatton technically good but musically average is a but wipe!
