great aircraft the An-70! It's design it's from the Soviet Union days, and Yes Antonov is based in Ukraine, but Oleg Antonov the founder is Russian! After the breakup of the USSR it became a joint Project between The Russian Federation and Ukraine.....

That thing is incredibly loud, but very fast and efficient. Now if they only place prop fans on a tiltrotor aircraft such as the V-22 Osprey.

Also, a Propfan is basically a Turbofan without the outer bypass duct. Whereas a Turboprop is a normal prop driven by a jet engine.

Why do i see that all the comments involve fighting about who's better, russia or USA. Antonov is a Ukranian company, ofcourse it was a part of Soviet Union, but now it works seperate from Russian Federation. And what can i say about the planes? Look at the Antonov An-225 , it's an old design (About 20 years) and even today USA engineers can't build anything bigger... Their best one was Airbus A380, and it's still smaller. I would trust soviet technology over American any day |
