No heat treatment. I have held off because once that's done, any changes are tough. (I don't have a toolpost grinder.) I've just made "additions" to the motor. It's not the brand of motor - it depends on what the motor's supposed to bolt up to. There's a mount for an EZgo golf cart, and maybe another for Yamaha, etc. I just sized up what I had on hand and built up stuff to make it work. I just make my stuff look like what the motor is supposed to bolt up to.

So, I'd really like to build a kart like yours as soon as get some funds. Meanwhile, I'd like to ask you a few questions. The face plate needed for the golf cart motor would obviously vary in its size and configuration depending on what brand of motor you get, correct? If so, would it be true to say that most motors are relatively easy to modify? You mentioned that the shaft is out of A2 tool steel: did you actually have it heat treated? GC

Hi wires99, It's great to see more of your work and your sincere passion in creative problem solving. I know quite a few machinists who have lost the desire to think critically and hardly ever think of themselves as being able to design a shaft as you did. As for myself and even with 25 years of experience as a machinist I'm learning a lot from your ideas. Your desire to build is infectious too!! Lol!! |
