To get to the top you do go near to the ringing room , but i do know that when ringers have to up to the bells they come down from the RR and then go up up a spiral staircase . Thanks for your comment .

I was a choirboy in the Abbey for 3 years -Mr Fea(I think thats the correct spelling) was the choirmaster and this is the first time I have seen the bells being rung although I grew up in Sherborne so Ive heard them a fewtimes. I do remember on Ascension Day going to the top of the tower for a service, which, I seem to remember meant having to go through this room to get to the top. Can anybody put me right on these memories.

I've rung these bells too they are a great ring of 8 and as stated already the worlds heaviest 8.

You are absolutely right . Problem in the video is that it is a learning piece , with one or two inexperienced ringers . What I would like to do at some point is to get an outside recording with a really good band really striking some triples on them . Anything that is apart from Bob Triples .

I agree with the comment about ringing them too fast. Bells like this need good "bell control". The tenor is trying to set the pace (rightly so!) but the lighter bells will not let it!

Hi ,Thanks for your message . Rang at at Deeping about 1973 . Can't remember a thing about them . Sherborne are rather fine , often spoiled by ringing them too slowly . They sound best when pushed along a bit .

Nice set of bells, reminds me of ringing at Deeping St James while on holiday, they are a heavy sounding six so they have to be rang slow. I was only a learner who got on to call changes at this time.

Don't know didn't ask them , and being a visitor it was not for me to ask it . If I go to a tower as the guest of ringers on their practice night it would be rude to question what they doing , even if I didn't approve of it. I find slow ringing tedious and the beauty of the bell music is lost .

did it occur to any of these people that they might be ringing them too fast? |
