I believe the more magnet the better, right up to the point where the fields from adjacent magnets merge too closely. 4 is an easy number to work with, so is 6.

will it work any better with more magnets or is four best

Inconsequential, at least at this scale.

Would the energy wasted changing the direction of the bearing rotation 4 time per revolution be less?
ZeroFossilFuel (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
Thought about that. If I biased it I could eliminate half the raceway. Problem is the stator must be DRIVEN in both directions. Doing so with a spring would impose unnecessary drag.

Hi ZFF,I have a tendency to simplify so take or leave this comment. Can you bias the bearing to one side with a spring or bungie and then use one rail? hap

Yap. It needs to be more than a page of text, so post some more as I do right now. I don't want this post to be this big, but I'm doing it so, hopefully it will be enough to push the oldest message to page 2 and now I don't know what to write anymore and so I will stop :D. Waiting for the breakthrough.

I think it happens automatically once there are enough comments to fill this page. That's what I've noticed elsewhere, but I'm just guessing.

Can anyone tell me how I reverse the order of these posts and put newest at the top? |
