A pre-eminent voice for liberal Christianity, John Shelby Spong was the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark for 24 years before his retirement in 2000. His admirers acclaim his making contemporary theology accessible to the ordinary lay person—he's considered a champion of an inclusive faith by many both inside and outside the Christian church. His challenges to the church have also made him a target of hostility, fear, and death threats. Calling himself "a joyful, passionate, convinced believer in the reality of God," he seeks not to create a new religion, but to reform the church he loves. oops, I meant Ezekiel. My bad. I don't think Elijah wrote anything

I agree with you about the dates, but not about authorship of Moses...or EVEN Elijah!!
Fuchikom (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
Elijah and Jeremiah wrote at the end of 7th C BC. Paul, 1st C. Moses wrote around 13th C BC, and he had a royal Egyptian educational background. Try again.

"As a Christian, you are not required, for salvation's sake, to choose the latter, but by choosing to abandon the Life giving Word you are robbing yourself of the peace and joy God promises to alot to those who keep his commandments."My friend, I do not abandon the life giving Word which is Christ. I choose to follow him daily as best as I can, but at the same time I do not consider myself worthy of His presence. I have only that which I have been given and I thank him everyday for it.

"At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself, who will you follow? Liberal scholars who concern themselves with the philosophy of men, or the Word of life?"Now what is the Word of Life? Is it a BOOK that Christ the Word has himself come to fulfill that we may not have to dwell in the ways of the past, or is the Word Jesus himself? Jesus said "ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, nock and the door will be openned." The Lord Jesus gave us that right...if we do it in his name.

"And yes, Jesus is the cornerstone of the foundation of the Church, but what comprises the rest of the foundation?"You tell me. Jesus is the 'cornerstone', the 'foundation' is his message, the 'rock' is the faith IN that message and the cornerstone.

"Seven-fold law of Noah? And why did they have to follow those restrictions?"Yes, the seven Laws of Noah. They had to follow them because that is what St. James, a pillar and leader of the Jerusalem Church, had prescribed. He, like his brother Jesus Christ, would have had knowledge of Gentile customs at the time.

"Law of Moses = Torah"Exactly!! Thats what 'Torah' means, but it can also mean 'teaching' or 'instruction', sometimes translated as 'Law.' It does not necessarily refer to the Pentateuch, but that which Moses received from Yahweh.

You said, "Really? Is that how people wrote back in the Ancient Near East? Is there another reason why Moses would've written in third person, that corresponds with the rest of divine revelation?"If people were writting autobiographically, then YES!! Look at Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and even Paul's epistles. These three authors were ancient Jewish "God-seekers." The Pentateuch (Five Books) were recorded history of Moses' experiences by more than one person, NOT an autobiography.
