With regard to questions about ownership of Grand Trunk Western, it and its predecessor companies have always been 100% owned by Canadian National or predecessors of Canadian National, going way back to the 1850's. GTW formerly did much of its own marketing and had a relatively "independent" structure (especially in the 1970s and 1980s), but starting in 1991 its image has gradually faded away into CN. GTW still technically exists, for legal and tax reasons.
