it's kind of like... you're in a thunderstorm, armageddon, the world is collapsing.. then heaven opens up and god takes you into his arms when the solo starts. kind of a rebirth thing out of the destruction of the rest of the song.

Not to really argue with you they're on a 4/4 time. They are inducing multiple time signatures by phrasing their stuff in poly rythmns.

btw 2:22 - 3:05 is probably the most striking definition of what makes this group so great to the patient ear. It was sections like that that sounded so terrible and out of sync to me when I first heard these guys. But what's incredible is now that I have really gotten into this band and gained the ear for them - its sections of their music such as that that have morphed into a complete opposite form of pure musical bliss for me now.

Out of frustration with any other interesting music perhaps - I desperately tried to open my ears to the music coming from meshuggah. While I found the majority of this song chaotic but of a very unique pulse; what really knocked me out of my chair was when I heard the outro part when Fredrik unleashes that incredible solo section among all this foreign chaos to my virgin ear. Honestly that majestic solo among the overwhelmingly foreign chaos of the rest of the track still leaves me in awe.

God I love this band because they are one of the few musical acts in my life that has challenged me to such a degree. My friend was trying to get me into this band two years ago and I honestly was such a shallow type of listener that I hated them because the band name pissed me off and it sounded like they valued noise overpowering any sort of melody. However on my own terms (and boredom with any other music) led me to somehow give this group another chance 6 months ago. With this very song
