The World Strongest Man competition 1993 in Orange, France. The competition was good but it could have been tighter. Gary Taylor was in good shape and fully deserved the title. Magnús Ver Magnússon was the runner up just like in 1992. Manfred Hoeberl had the biggest biceps in the world and he looked good.About the event:Here you can see the second part, the log press. The competitors have to lift the log as often as they can.Competitors:Gary Taylor (Britain), Magnús Ver Magnússon (Iceland), Riku Kiri (Finland), Manfred Hoeberl (Austria), Berend Veneberg (Netherlands), Harold Collins (USA), Henrik Ravn (Denmark) and Gerrit Badenhorst (South Africa)

yes tagman may have hit the nail. i have no experience of lifting logs or any type of strongman lifts apart from tyre flips and car lifts. perhaps that is true and if so i stand corrected, at least tagman had the intelligence and manners not to go throwing insults (ie. moron).

tagman2 hit the nail on the head - comparing a bench press to a log lift is foolish and suggests that you have no strength training on which to draw knowledge.

log lift and barbells are different, a log lift will feel like 150kg on the barbell, youre obviously not trained in strongman

i never said i could lift it as many times as these guys but i can handle that weight. and as i already pointed out where is that event now?? they got rid of it. and fyi 130 kg is not a lot of weight when you consider what these guys could bench. and you were being a tough guy by calling me a moron. you most certainly wouldnt call me that to my face i can tell you that. nice talking to you.

I'm the internet tough guy? Last time I checked it was you making big claims without any evidence to back it up - and on a website deticated to proving things through videos to boot. Congrats on getting 130lbs on the incline while your spotter deadlifts on the same bar. Also It's good to know that you think you are stronger than the strongest men on the planet, it's cute but it doesn't explain why you are sitting behind your computer instead of lifting in competitions.

very nice. another internet tough guy.you most certainly wouldnt say that to my face. you prob cant even incline press that for 1 reps. i can lift 130 on the incline for several reps so how does that make me a moron. the next time you want to be a real tough guy on the internet at least expand on your name calling. why do you think they rid of that excercise???
URAGR8M8 (July 17, 2008 at 5:44 pm)
You're a moron.

thats not that impressive. its incline pressing 110kg. thats not inhuman at all. im not taking away from their strength, i love wsm but that is a shit event. i prefer todys, power based events

Where can you get videos of these older WSM competitions? Is it possible to buy them somewhere?

I know Manfred Hoeberl had a car accident in 1995 that put him out of competition for a few years, but then I read he'd made a recovery. What happened to him after that? He would have surely won a WSM title in the late 90's.
