geminitry to see events, both past and present, logically. can you not see that the superstitious leaders of the iron age holy lands were as intent on keeping power and controlling minds as the imams in fundamental islamic areas are today. that if they were to take over the world tomorrow the koran would be perceived as the one true book. all else would be ignored if it did not agree with the koran. they believe even more than you, does that make them purer than you or me?

geminialso you are cherry picking! the bible is not all about love, truth, justice. some of it is just lists, some really poor poems and songs, some heinous acts like incest and genocide by men held in esteem by the faithful (lot and moses are the first to spring to mind).finally revelations is like some kind of acid trip by a paranoid schizophrenic yet it has been interpreted and reinterpreted to fit possible armaggedons since it was written. such a lot of nonsense as we don't need it!

geminihow about inspired by the idea of god?inspired by fear of those who claimed to know god?the commandments and guidance are basic human traits for survival, they came from man and the bible has claimed them as rules of god.the history is not 100% accurate unless of course you really believe that people did used to live for 900 years. if you do this debate is over!

daltriani: So you believe that the entire bible is false, a work that would've taken dozens, if not hundreds of years for a single man to make up and master, and even though the entire core of the bible is about truth, love, justice, etc. they'd make up all of the history, all of the things said, made it fit just right, and all that, even knowing that it was all false, when paper was very inefficient, instead of them being inspired by God to write the actual history, and all of the events, etc?

geminii misinterpreted nothing. again your starting point is god telling his dim creations (us) a simple account of creation. i fully believe that men created god and made the rules up as they went along and this of course still happens. it's about establishing customs and mindsets that maintain the status quo. nothing to do with truth!

dalt,BECAUSE of God, there are natural realities and "order". Nothing short of astounding. Thus, why think the incarnation unfathomable, according to HIS eternal purpose and promise?"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." (Joh 1:14):-)
GeminiXtech (July 25, 2008 at 8:03 pm)
daltriani: you seem to have misinterpreted what I've been saying about creation; I'm saying that people wouldn't understand if God said that he created the universe in billions of years. Instead it's written in days, steps. For instance, the first day, (step) is that God created light (the big bang); all of the steps work like this. What I believe is that a "big bang" existed; in short, it was a controlled explosion. As for the universe, I don't believe it's finite...
GeminiXtech (July 25, 2008 at 8:02 pm)
...I did say that particular comment would be a bit biased; I simply assumed that atheists believe that the universe is finite and it started from a big bang. As for the idea that you're going to hell because your an Atheist, Christians disagree on that one. The two main opinions are that everyone who isn't either perfect or Christian is going to hell; that's a bit more of a prejudice attitude that you get used to if you're trying to find faults in God-fearing people...
