http://www.GOODMagazine.comIn 2000, 189 nations came together and made a promise to eradicate extreme poverty by 2015. (Extreme poverty is defined as living on less than a dollar a day). This promise led to the Millennium Declaration - a document outlining 8 specific goals to help the world realize this promise.

Unfortunately, it has also opened our doors wide open to some of the most corrupt and violent people in the world, and they WANT OUR LAND.

Actually by addressing the issues of poverty in developing nations and discrimination against developing economies on a global market, you address a number of the underlying causes of civil unrest and terrorism. The reality is that it is in a developed nation's own self interest to provide assistance to it's neighbors, in terms of regional stability, economic growth, and by eventually standard of living.

Terrorism doesn't kill people. Poverty does. Look at the numbers and you'll find that the disparity in your attention is ridiculous. When you also take into account the money that solving these problems costs, you will find your position completely absurd.

The UN is a glorified talking shop.

How does terrorism spread? Its through poverty(and sthe unrest it creates) as well as a lack of education. Its foolish to think that if solve the problem of terrorism then we can focus on poverty in Africa, in the Middle East and Asia. It should not be one and then the other...its both! Its a bad idea to take care of ourselves and then heal others...bringing healing to others WILL help ourselves!

If we were truly investing our resources in helping others, the terrorists would have a hard time justifying their contempt would they not? The reason the terrorists hate the developed world is that we always choose pampering ourselves over helping to meet the needs of an impoverished world.

This is a ridiculous comment. As if we will ever be able to solve all the problems of the developed world. If you're concerned about how the money is being spent, go there yourself and make sure it's spent properly. Do something instead of just sitting on your ass nursing your uninformed opinions.

heal yourself before healing others. There're a lot of problems in U.S ,Europe and Asia which should be solved in the first place (as a guy two posts down suggested, let's start with terrorism and global warming). Anyway, why no one in this movie mentioned that most of our aids for Affrica was wasted on running local wars between tribes, which only made things worse for those poor people, who can't take care of themselfs?
