That's an after-fire not a back-fire. Back-fire is when the explosion occurs in the intake manifold and/or air cleaner.

When did he try to use it? Looked like he might have activated it at too low an RPM or something. I know on a gas engine you're supposed to only use nitrous above 3000 RPM, but I don't know on a diesel since that's pretty close to a diesel redline I'm betting..... Sounded like it was at pretty low RPMs when it back fired....
