What a race! The best of them all and certainly the one time where everyone remembers the winner and the runner up. The National produces drama year on year though nothing will ever match this.

fantastic effort by crisp, if the jockey pitman, had off kept the stick in the left hand and kept him balanced then he scrapes in as he ducked in before the elbow, anyway we wont see another aussie horse run like that in a national in our life time

WOW what a performance by Crisp - he tries so hard, as much as I admire Red Rum, if only he had waited until the year later as Crisp desperately deserved that win

At EQUAL weights, Crisp wins by half a furlong.

Thats sickening the last 150m, you see the Crisp has got absolutely nothing left but still tried to fight on. Reverse the weights and Crisp wins by 80 lengths.

this is the greatest sporting injustice ever known, i loved rummy but i cried like only a 7 year old could because my Crisp didnt win.me dad even gave me his winnings and i told him i did not want them. i just wanted crisp to be the champion. this horse should have a place alongside RR at aintree too !

wow, that horse is jumping SOO cleanly. he just doesn;t slop along at all. All of them jump well- better than today - but that is really amazing.

Amazing horse Crisp... In 1971, he cantered home in what's now known as the Champion Chase. Could we imagine Master Minded in the GN in a couple of years? I think not...

check out "Mr" Tony Preston in the 1966 National for the worst commentary ever.
