If you're suggesting that viola players are terrible spellers, i beg of you to reconsider such a notion. And if we want to be picky about how we type, then I could mention that grammatically your sentence lacks a capital "I".Nevertheless, it's all about the music, and as a viola, cello, and violin player koolskater5 makes valid points.

...which in my opinion the Hagen fit "à la perfection" ;)

I actually think it was the purpose of Beethoven in this last quartet... Extreme dynamics, extreme registers, "wrong accents", melody over 3 or even 4 instruments(!!)...As if under this "nice appearance" of "very exquisite music" he would have become kind of mad! The 2nd mvt is absolutely barbarian!(the ostinato passage is full of exciting crazyness)

i think you speak for all viola players*notes terrible spelling*

Exactly, and that is why I think interpretations should not be taken so seriously

WOW that is a beautifull viola, As I viola player i think thats why i choose playing the viola, it hass such a rich warm tone to it. And In a key like C# Minor if played on the C string the Viola gives me goose bumps. Its an over looked instrument that is truely beautifull. But as for the peice, This a beautifull peice i love the call and response that is passed around though out the quartet. Beethoven was truely a genius. Its very tragic he never got to hear his music for himself.

I love how there are phrases in this that appear briefly that are also present in the Grosse Fugue.

I second policewah. The way to tell if the music is good is for the listener to close his or her eyes. Don't look at their faces; listen to their music.

heifetz may not be always right. there are other violinists who are better than him. heifetz should not expect everyone to play like him or else the world of music will be so boring. variety colours the world of music.

Heifetz-Sama would rip off a few heads here.. from what I heard he dosent really like violinists who play with closed eyes..
