Assalamualykum, walahi I ask myself the same thing. I follow three and im trying to follow one. I think music is haram if it keeps you from reading quran or praying. I think it is alright if the content isnt astry and if you dont listen to it alot. It is alright if you listen to it rarely. My suggestion is to stay with nasheeds . it really helps and it keeps from being tempted to listen to music.

please convince me! there are three different thoughts about music. 1.totally haram like you say (that would mean only allow ppl like mishary rashed el 3afaasy's audio poems)2. only in eid and weddings (with daff only)3. its alright, as long as the content isn't astray.i currently follow 3, i tried 1 and i couldn't continue!i await your reply!a struggling muslim
