I did compile compiz fusion, but I'm not sure if there's an easier way. SmSpillaz (the maintainer of the plugin) may have ported it to ubuntu's version. Take a look on his blog.

You need to compile compiz fusion as far as I know. Not sure though.

If I remember correctly, someone did put something together where you smack the edge of the laptop to rotate the cube. "smacktop" or something? Take a look on the forums.

Is this going to interface with accelerometers built into laptops? I have seen something similar on a mac where they used quartz and the accelerometer to keep all the windows vertical. not that we should always strive to be like OS X... I love where this is going and I can see where this is going to be super useful.
