i hope you don't mind, I have a couple of BIG problems with your ideas.#1: why do you keep saying "WE", who is "WE"?there is NO "WE". as far as you are concerned, it is ONLY YOUR consciousness that exists - and you should have absolutely NO reason to believe in the existence of any other consciousness, why should you??#2 it seems you are assuming a lot of things about the nature of TIME. first, u are assuming that time DOES EXIST, and then u are also assuming lots of things about time's flow

With all respect, I personally don't think anyone couldn't care less about your writing here on Youtube. I respect you, what you wish to do, and hate to see people like samalini tell you you are not capable to become a writer. I cannnot say whether you are capable or not. I too wish to become a writer when I grow up, and the only people I actually listen to when they talk about my writings are close friends or teachers who want the best for me. If you really love writing, go for it and practice.

Just because people are humble does not mean they are stupid. In fact, the two rarely coincide with each other.

"You are not capable to become a writer" Doesn't anyone notice that this is poor English? Get it together, guys. And seeing Faulkner was awesome!

but i hope that everything works out for you anyways.. humans need strong will to overcome obstacles ultimately refraining from a determinist state of mindit is truly a serious matter, for me at least to be a determinist is in extension to lose all sense of control over my life, and that is exactly what happens.. hopefully we'll grow out of it..

ye, its time to adopt a new mentalityim starting to wonder about this question whether people are really free to make their choices or only appear to be free...? or maybe im just using determinism as defense mechanism to remove responsibility from my actions.. i probably do, and still the question remains, are we free to make choices? how free are we? and i conclude that whatever the answer may be it is always better to avoid determinism and better stick to determination
chesterlover4eva (January 20, 2008 at 5:07 am)
ye, its time to adopt a new mentalityi feel that determinism can really hamper your life.. its a big problem for me and i always narrow everything down to determinism,i might say that laziness for instance is a predetermined quality... or that musically talented people are predetermined to be rich, etc.. pretty bad,

I have the same problem. It's why I hate determinism. Personally, I don't believe it, but I do find myself thinking "ah, it's all causal anyway" too often. When it comes down to it, quite simply, I do think that consciousness brings about the ability to choose, whether or not once that choice is made it 'could have been different.' |
