normal kevlar helmets are designed to protect the soldier from shrapnels. of course they can also protect the soldier from "small" pistol rounds like 9mm parabellum .45 ACP or .357 magnum:

I like the FN P90 more its 5.7x28mm V.S the MP7 4.6x30mm and has 50-round detachable box magazine V.S MP7 40-round box magazine AND has Barrel length of 263 mm (10.4 in) V.S MP7 180 mm (7.1 in) !!

the round is designed to have more penetrating power. not kinetic STOPPING power. for example. the AK-47 has the best stopping for an assault rifle but has a MUCH shorter accurate range than the M16.

They would stop some other bullets and they do so... but this round has some extra power... and you saw the results... a bullet from the MP5 (that shoots the 9mm rounds) won't penetrate the helmet.A cal. 45 might damage the helmet itself in an effective way... I don't know if this would go through... a 5,56 rifle bullet is small but high velocity... but still a smaller diameter then one from the MP7 (that has the extra power)

The only thing that the mp7 and the 4.6 caliber falls short on is the stopping power...a short burst wont necessarily drop a charging, adrenaline pumped person. which is where an mp5/40 should shine in... P90s also has a slightly better stopping power but is not much better =/ kudos on fitting 20-40 rounds into a tiny gun tho =P

The military is looking at them right now for tank crews. When a tank is damaged and the crew needs to evacuate, one guy gets the m4 stored with the survival kit and the other three have to make do with the m9 service pistol, which can't do a whole lot. Replace the m4 with a couple of tiny mp7s and everyone gets a weapon that counts for something on the modern battlefield. |
