Let's set the record straight. The tomato is a fruit, it belongs to the nightshade family. Many people weren't far off saying that it was poisonous as many other "related" members were poisonous. The first domesticated tomato was a little yellow fruit often found anywhere south of Mexico to Argentina. After the Spanish came to the Americas, the Spanish distributed the tomato throughout Caribbean. So it spread to the far reaches of the world. Another mystery solved by your trust Steadyshots.

I have a race team (Team Screaming Tomato) and a business (Screaming Tomato Images). After using these names I found out tomato was slang back in the 1940s and 50s for "a desireable woman". You can be my "screaming tomato" anytime.....

I know that the original word is "JITOMATE" for the red one and "TOMATE" for the green one, at least in most part of Mexico, close to the frontier with US the red one is called TOMATE and the green one is called TOMATILLO
