You completely missed my point... I am not talking about free as in beer. rather free as in freedom... my workstation gets changed often, and every time I install Delphi 7, I have to get permission from Borland to use it. So I went back to Delphi 5. Your explorer is NOT a replacement, it's just a come-on for the full product. It won't even accept components from 3rd party vendors. And... yes, I do remember the original spirit of Borland... with Turbo Pascal 2... it was very very cool...

delphi 2006 explorer is still free, and freely available from borland. There are enterprise toolchains you have to pay for, but if you just want delphi, and a great IDE for it, explorer is pretty damn nice.

I don't get it... Did they license Star Wars from George Lucas? This was lame.

What that you say? ....bringing freedom to the galaxy? You have a lot of goul... Back in the beginning I could load Turbo Pascal 2 in any computer and use it with complete freedom. Now, when I wipe my workstation and re-install Delphi 7, I have to ask for permission to use it, in the form of product activation. Yeah.... some freedom. After many years of Borland loyalty, I stopped at Delphi 7 and will not keep buying. I am also keeping my Delphi 5 in a safe place.
