It is a Hacker B40 FAI motor on 9-1700 NiMH cells, APC or CAM 4.75 X 4.75, about 90amps. I now fly this same airframe on 3S 2100 lipo with cut down prop to keep amps below ~65amps. It is faster with the Lipo set up and longer flights.

There are many models aside from this older Avionik (although the D99 is still a wonderful airframe). Search google for F5D for tons of info. DO NOT attempt to fly one of these without a substantial amount of experience with other very high speed models. You'll cost yourself tons of money and/or kill someone without knowing what you're doing. Troy (the pilot in the video) has been a many time US team member... knows his stuff.

Generally JR 241's but now use their 281 digitals. You can also use Dymond D60's in the wings. You don't need huge amounts of torque (20oz/in) since the control surfaces are small and low deflection. Centering and strong geartrain is very important. |
