Don't be so sure.1 WJ Clinton earned much applause when he rebuked a loud protester in the audience.2 Reagan did the same more concisely and to even more uproarious applause--find the YouTube video clip 'Reagan tells a heckler to shut up'.Through the years, Presidents of either colour have put the impertinent in their place--the extremists on the opposite end always scream in protest, but the rest of us always express our approval both then and in the next opinion poll/election.

I actually he's showing a great deal of respect, and humanity and reason as well, or else his character is. It's her who is being disrespectful, not just to him for sitting while he stands, but to tell people that homosexuality is wrong simply because a book says it is. Where's the respect or reason in that? Bartlett has considerable respect for religions and faith, what he hates are people who use them for bigotry and pettiness. That's how he enters the show in the very first episode.

A great scene from a great show.Of course, if the real life President of the US ever threw a public tantrum because someone was sitting while he stood, it would be unlikely that he would ever be re-elected as a lavatory attendant, let alone President.

Discussing topics like slavery does not alway lead to a moral lesson on slavery. A Biblical theme is the pursuit of freedom not slavery; Gal 5:1. The Bible provides character traits for when people are in the conditions of slavery. Discusses communal issues that arise as other lessons are being taught.
