to answer your questions, vista 64 bit is better that xp 64 bit (because xp has to emulate 32 bit programs). the ups is so he can properly shut down his system to avoid errors

I agree Vista is a excellent OS,Theres to many negative stereotypes floating around.Unless you've ran it & configured it for around 6 months then don't enforce your opinions on others.

i agree with slip most people who complain about vista don't have sufficient specs to run vista comfortably, and yes you can turn off all the bells and whistles in vista. You should consider an upgrade in ram if vista was leaving you hanging. Newegg is the answer.
