It's a pity about the lighting. Great drummer all the same.

I could give a shit about technique, dude had a one-in-a-million personality that breathed into his playing

Speed? Krupa's single stroke speed far surpassed any known drummers to this day.

Moeller technique has no modern application. Actual Moeller technique was an upstroke prior to an accent. There was nothing modern about Krupa, other than his set. Comparing Buddy, Bellson, or whoever to Krupa is like comparing apples and oranges. None of these guys had better technique than Krupa. They all had more modern technique, but the way Krupa played died with him. Krupa was REALLY old school ...

Krupa was a student of Moeller. Any of you familar with this "Moeller" technique? Moeller learned rudimentary drumming from a military camp during the cival war and documented it. "Moeller technique" these days is being advertised as this 'whipping' motion used to get triple strokes but that actually is not truly the technique at all

His technique was closer to that of a field drummer from the cival war era. Most of his double strokes consisted of a combination of up strokes and accents. He didn't tend to bounce the sticks off the heads for his doubles.

Hm? You people may think this sounds crazy, but Krupa was drastically different than any of these drummers people tend to group him with; technically.

It's unfortunate that the whole video was not included. I love the whole thing on "Classic Drum Solos Vol. 2". Called "Shadow Rhapsody".

as technically proficient as Buddy ??? Sounds like you are saying he could not keep a beat. The man knew it all and when needed created it all. He played with a desire that no other has done. He has accomplished more than any other and on occasion ,,when you saw him on the road and played,,he could beat as fast as Buddy in his prime. Go Gene Go...I still remember the audience saying this,,,and boy did he ever.

not only he developed modern drum method and technique, he was the first to use a bass drum pedal and also invented hi-hat stand, crash and ride cymbals and tom tom drums as we know them today. genius

Gene Krupa = The DrummerYes drummerx357, certainly he was the most important drummer in history but I am not so sure that Rich or Morello were technically over him.He was mostly a swing drummer and he was at his best in '40s -early '50s, but since mid of '50s he had serious problems with health.A friend of mine is collector of Krupa records and I listened some FANTASTIC stuff, and I can say he really was unique.Ciao from Italy
