Hi alextamuk, although i'm not a native speaker I did my own translation a few comment pages back. I tried to give a more literal translation of the french. I think the rhyming bllsht that somebody came up with a while ago and circulated around as the main English translation doesn't really follow what shes singing. I made some mistakes in my version having to do with idioms (again I'm not a native speaker) but I think ur trnslation is closer to what Camille is really saying, poetically. Thanks

thank you so much- I'm not a native speaker so several of my translations are probably incorrect in many places. I tried to give the more literal translation of the French lyrics as compared to the rhyming translation circulating the internet.merci encore tiaxas

Je vais essayer de vous traduire cela en anglais même si je trouve la version traduite très poétique, mais quelque peu éloignée du texte : Lovers'dreams are like good wineThey can bring you happiness or sorrowWeakened by hunger I feel miserableStealing on my way all I canFor nothing in life is free

Never will they tell me that I cannot shoot for the stars;Let me fill you with wonder, let me take flightWe will finally fea . . . st.The party will finally startAnd bring out the bottles, the troubles are overI'm setting the table; tomorrow is a new lifeI am happy at the idea of this new destinyA life spent in hiding, and now I'm finally freeThe feast is on my pathA life spent in hiding, and now I'm finally freeThe feast is on my path. . . .

here you goThe dreams of lovers are like good wineThey give joy or even sorrowWeakened by hunger, I am unhappyStealing on my way everything I canBecause nothing in life is free.Hope is a dish too soon finishedI am accustomed to skipping mealsA thief alone and hungry is sad enough to die (see note)As for us, I am bitter, I want to succeedBecause nothing in life is free.

Surviving isn't living; won't eat what I'm toldLet me free, I'll astonish you; I'm planning to flyI won't let this party just pass me byThe banquet is now underway, so...Bring out the bottles; a new tale has spunIn clearing this table, my new life's begunI am nervous, excited; (oh) just read the marquee!A lifetime of hiding; I'm suddenly free!My dinner is waiting for meA lifetime of hiding; I'm suddenly free!My dinner is waiting for me

Dreams are to lovers as wine is to friendsCarried through lifetimes, (and) spilled now and thenI am driven by hunger, so saddened to beThieving in darkness; I know you're not pleasedBut nothing worth eating is freeMy hope is a banquet impatiently downedImpossibly full, now I'll probably drownMany thieves' lives are lonely with one mouth to feedIf giving means taking, I'll never succeedFor nothing worth stealing is... Free at last; won't be undersold
