Nope, Hoodoo is alot like Voodoo. Hoodoo is a mix of African and European ritual magic, superstitions etc. Sounds like the dog was chasing someone "the hoodoo" trying to place some type of hex or curse on the subject of the lyrics. As in Voodoo, Hoodoo requires obtaining a personal possession of the one who is the target to cast a spell. Hound dog saved him by chasing them off.

a Hoodoo. in the south this must be one of those flaming balls of swamp gas sometimes seen i think? or is it a floating ghostly mass of swamp gas?? that would freak out any hound dog!!

Look back then critics thought they were easyto copy, but nobody ever did. Its not so easyto copy when your not a pro. Great song, never saw that video before. Is the drummerClifford somebody or something? I have to digup an album to check names.
