It's supposed to be FUNNY. Maybe you don't find these funny, but I do. And I have been an Enterprise java developer for the past 15 years.I love rails but ruby leaves a LOT to be desired. There's something wrong with any programming language in which variables foo, @foo, @@foo, and $foo all mean different variables and the difference can only be detected at runtime. That's way too much semantic meaning to give punctuation; and at least java tells you if you use [ instead of {.

Who the fuck cares what is better? If a dev wants to use PHP, fucking let them. If they want to use Rails the fucking let them. In what way will it affect YOU if someone else is using a certain programming language on the backend of their site? Oh yeah, NONE. And its not like either of the technologies costs any money...But for anyone who wants my opinion, I'm a PHP dev.

And what did PHP crap based frameworks use for "inspiration"? Oh yeah, rails.Rails is better because of Ruby, an extremely well designed, orthogonal language which is simultaneously elegant, powerful and flexible.web development is only a small part of what Ruby does.

I would much rather use ruby(or python) than PHP for more standard web development.PHP is a disaster of epic fail. Of course, ruby and python were written by professionals(read: real programmers with CS degrees, and not people who picked up PHP for idjits).

i agree it's a ghetto

those who are making big money with rails do care a big effing lot. google for "rails is a guetto" to know more about the bitterness of this matter.
irrelevantfool (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
stop the war between ruby vs php.seriously who effin cares if you like php more than rails, or vice-versa, do your thing and do it well, that's what countsand yes, rails is cool but this video sux just as much as mac ads, as if you needed to have a mac to be cool, lame lame lame, grow up tossers

It almost sounds like you don't know what you're talking about; you can use AJAX on any application really, there is no such thing as "supporting it". Just use a toolkit like jQuery or something and you can make remote calls to any url within your domain you like.PHP itself isn't all too elegant, but when used with a nice framework like codeigniter, it has clean code and is quite powerful.BTW, I have developed in both PHP (my native language), and Ruby (with Rails).

If you use PHP with any one of the many nice frameworks on the market (Symfony, Codeigniter - my choice, Akelos, cakePHP, etc.), then you can do these database migrations and nice configuration. On another note, I like Rails myselft. I like the nice clean code and it seems that it can be fairly powerful. |
