Along with Karen Burke Morison and John J. DiIulio Jr., John M. Bridgeland studied the 3.5 million Americans between the ages of 16 and 25 who have dropped out of school without a high school diploma. His report, commissioned by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, uses new data collected by Peter D. Hart Research Associates to conclude that this is a solvable problem. Bridgeland, who has served as Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council and USA Freedom Corps, is currently President and CEO of Civic Enterprises.

i'm thinking about dropping out right now in my senior year! my gpa is a 3.469 and SATs 1720.I enjoy my class material and teachers, but I want to break free from the confining thought process my peers exhibit. I am involved as president of 2 clubs at school and have a job and a group of friends who take rigorous AP classes. But I'm just so tired of this cycle of slow and limited way of thinking.

I am an unschooler.I dropped out for 2 reasons 1 students and teachers alike treated intellectuals like filth. 2 i hate stupid pussy ass grunt work i knew how to do the shit they assigned but they didnt care what i knew or what interested me ppl h8 school cause they forced to go thru a set of motions designed to teach them obedience and destroy their natural curiosity. after i left i learned about unschooling which matched my philosophy and thats what i do. I'm a dropout and im damn proud to b1

I think people focus too much on trying to prove there IS a problem, now we have to try to come up with solutions to try and solve the problem for both kids who are at risk and who have already dropped or been kicked out of school. (Regardless of age) And then bring them back to finish what they began.

But I wish that as well as showing the problem, they should also come up with solutions to help those who have dropped (or been kicked) out of high school and did not graduate and recieve their high school diploma AND who WANT to return to finish and get their actual diploma.

This is an excellent documentary that certainly knows the terrible and sad facts regarding people who have dropped out of high school or were, in a sense, "kicked out" due to bad behaviour, pregnancy, failure to graduate on time, etc.
