A playthrough of Yokai Yasiki (Ghost House) for the MSX. I didn't know this was good game when I purchased it a few months back. I only bought a loose cartridge so I could cannibalize the outer casing, instead I decided to keep it the way it is now. It has become a welcome edition to my favorite games. The story is nothing but cliché. Ghosts have kidnapped a man's main squeeze and you go to their haunted hideout to rescue her. Piece of cake, right? Of course it is. This house is like a maze but thank god the levels don't look all the same, and the maps are much smaller compared to Goonies. You'll need to complete 5 levels and bosses before your gal is free. You're are allowed to warp to different levels of the game through funerary pyre kinda like Super Mario Bros, but I didn't see the point of it unless you looking for extra health. On the cartridge label, I'm assuming the main character is a farmer armed only with his flashlight. Your flashlight in the beginning is limited to close range, but it can be upgraded to long range which will want most of the time. Several items can be released from flashing at red lanterns such as health, invincibility, and bag of extra points. There's also a statutes that will fully restore your powers if you have a white triangles in your possession (I have no idea what they're called). Your main objective is to defeat the bosses in each stage but to reach them you need to find 5 paper seals scatter through each level. For every 5 paper seals you get a key which allows you to tackle the boss, and the bosses are easy when you figured out their weakness. Although it may not be apparent at first, I would know because I remember spending a whole day trying to defeat the first boss until someone told me how.If you like Goonies or feel the need of a good platformer then give this game a shot. It's simple, fun, & short and perfect for speedrun attempts.

Correct, they are onigiri. I think I also see some geta but I am not sure.

Makes sense that if the white triangles are food it would restore health. Now that you mention they look like onigiri. Is that what they're?

Thanks for posting this. This is an excellent game. It has indeed some likeness to Goonies. This game has many Shinto elements in it,which makes it very interesting to play this game. The white triangles are food that is put in front of a statue of Buddha (or another god) in a shrine. This is one of Casio's best.
