Full steam ahead on DHR
A 2-feet gauge B-Class steam engine hauls its load of carriages arriving at Darjeeling from Ghoom on a cold and rainy evening in May 2008, sounding the whistle to alert pedestrians and road traffic before crossing the main road to enter the railway station, as there are no level crossing barriers on the DHR route. Note that cold conditions promote steam effect! The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway [DHR] was accorded the World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999.
