You may already know this by now since you asked two weeks ago, yes you will need to backup your ps3 onto a another Internal or External hard drive or flash drive, then after all your stuff is copied then you may safely install, your other os. Personally I'm doing this when some of that Gpu will be available to use, hopefully. That damn Hyperviser!

hey guys,if i try to install a os on my ps3,will it wipe out my original os? i need to run java to grt into chat rooms and all other kinds of shit,but im afraid of messing up my console

does this use standard or micro edition? i can code java, and have made a few games for my phone and pc, also there is a java micro emulator on psp..that rocks...you can play all java cell phone games..I made a pong version for my phone that ajusts its difficulty dynamically depending on how you do..call it primative ai. And it keeps score, i would love to make some java programs for this, how do you do this?

But it is still off a USB Drive. One post said here you could so the same on any BR player, but they dont have USB.But the quality of the game is like those games so... I guess as of now the best is other OS...

no, this is even worse than saying Other OS is homebrew.This is like someone taking one of the cheapo sucky games they put on the Special Features menus of kids' Disney DVDs, putting it in the PS3, and saying its homebrew.
