Do smiths who make katanas also make the smaller sword?
Caliburnis (August 18, 2008 at 7:24 pm)
No, but they need to know how their cuts would actually perform. Hence test cutting and the like. WMArtists do this too.

Do modern martial artists need to cut many peoples heads off?
Caliburnis (August 18, 2008 at 3:40 pm)

People like me! What are you Shogun or somthing? So only the worthy can own one? Money talks. The way i understand it is the only people who actualy use them are the Yakuza and their criminals. Me thinks they either rob, extort or buy them!

master sword makers don't just sell their sword to anybody. Japanese have to earn it by having a high rank in socials status-which pays a big part in Japanese culture . samurai swords are a big part of Japanese heritage.heritage is what most westerners lag of so people like you would probably never understands.a person must be proven himself worthy to own one and when that person does, it means alot more than the money amount of that piece of steel.also, sword making is a pursue of perfection

Your alright! Put me down as a friend. If you want someone to argue with give me a shout! BUT,paintings Arent meant to kill! Music isnt meant to kill(well maybe rap) those swords ARE designed to KILL! All that time and effort to make, ALL that money to buy,and for what? So someone can look at it? Unless your a samurai and its the 16th century its no use!!! P.S. I will look that up iv always had an interest in swords and Iv read Shogun like 5 times! Peace.

Then tell me why we have so many painters, and music artists. They spend years making so many songs, singing and painting or whatever. It's the exact same thing. And there's two arts. One called iaido, and one called tameshigiri. Look them up.

I hear what your saying but it still makes no sence to go to all that trouble! A well made suit is one thing but would you spend a Shit load of money for somthing you dont us? Those swords take 3people3 months to make! Who are they for? They can cut a man in half from groin to throat! Once upon a time they were used but how many people do you know who need that kind of weapon? There awsome and i admire the art it must take about 20 years to get that level of skill, but again Who are they for?

If you compare a replica and a real one, you'll be able to see the difference between a fake and a real one. Fake ones can have a spray painted hamon, can shatter if you just drop it on the ground, or are just lower quality. And you can say the exact same thing about any art form, including paintings. Why do we still have artists when you can just manifacture them? Why have tailors when you can get machine made clothing? It's several times more expensive.
