they were goin at 40 but becuase the cars r moving in oppositte directions at the same speed, at the point of impact it would be equal to hitting a stationary object at 80 mph

I'm confused... Why did they make the test at 80 mph instead of a more realistic 40 mph? Plus i keep reading that the engine was removed, i thought i could see a bit of the block of the engine, but it does seemed a little "hollowed out". Oh well i'll still keep my Volvo 740. (moduses aren't available in the US)

What all of you do not understand is what kills people generally is not crush or deformation, but the change in acceleration (deacceleration for those of you who dont know) which kills you. The volvo deformed, but it changed the acceleration of the Renault at a higher rate, so the occupants may not have broken legs, but how did their brain handle the impact with the front of their skull? No acclerometers on the crash test dummies? This is nothing more than a advertisement.

What I learned from this video:1: A person will still survive if they drive a Volvo with the engine removed, crossmember cut and bumper rail deliberately damaged.2: Renault are really trying everything to make their shitheaps look safe.3: I would rather have an elderly male yak urinate in my pockets than be seen in a Renault Modus.

Funny how some here keep maintaining there's no engine in the volvo....Considering the facts (previous posts) removal of the engine would be "betrayed" immediatly, some just won't accept that renault has made a remarkable achievement on passive safety in the last 8 years, otherwise just watch the video of the lagunaII against a tree with 55MPH, would love to see any other car's performance on this one.I'm not saying renault is a perfect car (appauling reliablity of early laguna II)

Well that confirms that you are twelve with a childish response like that. I think you should probably not make any comments until you understand what you are talking about - an airbag fitted to this Volvo would probably assist in killing the occupants as it blow up in the drivers face. Rover fitted an airbag to the old mini - do you think that made any difference? No because in tests the airbag fired up to roof of the car.

Short nose cars are unsafe - that'll most of BMW models then |
