my b. Lori Lieberman in 1971 recorded it first and is considered the original artist, even tho it is still seen as Ms. Flacks! She rocked it better.

No. Roberta Flack is the original artist. It's from her album "Killing Me Softly" from 1973. Both versions r hella good.

Great songs live forever!The story behind the song:Lori Lieberman wrote and sang this song dedicated to an artist named Don Mclean after she saw him perform at a concert because his song had such an impact on her. Then one day Roberta Flack heard Lori's song at an airline and decided to record it. It became a hit. Two decades later Lauryn Hill and the Fugees heard Roberta's version on radio and they knew that they had to record the track themselves. That's how the song really came about.
