Argerich plays magnificently this piece like no one else could. It was released in her debut album and that version is superb, even more than this rendition.

Some artists have a very passionate fan base, which is why some regard Martha as a goddess. For the repertoire she chooses to play, she is at the very top and, like you said, one of the best in the world. I'd say that Van Cliburn, though, has a very limited range of repertoire. And Barenboim is quite inconsistent: I've heard two recitals in Chicago that were careless, sloppy, and obviously underprepared. But he is still amazing when one thinks about his range as a pianist and conductor!

In fact, Horowitz was much criticized in his day as a mere technician. All the flak made him to go into a long retirement and reassessed his entire approach. Then he gave his famous Carnegie Hall comeback concert in which he played the s l o w e s t version of the Mozart "Turkish Rondo" ever, just to prove he had got over flash for its own sake. Rubinstein once said about him: "Ah, Horowitz. Yes, he's a much better pianist than I am. But I'm a better musician."

ok i exaggerate, but so do those who seem to think she is a goddess. She is ONE of the best pianists in the world.. not a goddess! Now i'll phrase this carefully: she does not give the best, stylistically correct all-round consistent interpretions across the full range of important piano composers - such an accolade belongs to either Barenoim, Askenazy, Lill, Gilels or Kissin or Van Cliburn.
