arent you talking about the gas lines from the science room? Most science rooms have natural gas I believe. You'll burn yourself, because it's probably not lighter than air like methane.

i know a better way (much more fun) get a beaker (better in a science high school room) a line just like the one they used turn on the gas put soap in the beaker let it do this grab the soap grab a lighter and light the bubbles this WILL not burn your hand instead the flame will go up into the air because of methane being lighter than air
