The tuning is open 'A'.'Johnny Winter Blues Experiment' is where I heard this first... the record was a demo project that was simply pressed and distributed. I believe it was his first album. You can find the album on CD if you search.AAA A fan for 3/4 of my ride JW reigns as is truly one of the greatest contributers to modern music and the guitar culture. A under recognized icon. Time Life's acclaimed 3 hour history of R&R does not mention JW. WTF!

i don't know what nashville tuning is but i believe he is playing a fender 12 string (xII) stringed with 6 strings i believed he is also tuned to open a hence the song is in the key of a

Is johnny using nashville tuning there? He seems to be using a twelve string with only six strings on it.

Tommy Shannon on the bass and Uncle John Turner on the drums, JW got famous after this and dumped both of them. Tommy of course hooked up with Stevie Ray Vaughan.
