I seriously doubt herb didn't get paid, trust me he did, anyways rap/hip hop originally started from doing raps on top of songs that these people love and wanted to bring back, there's proof that the samples these guys used have brought current sales to the original artists, people say hey I would love to have or hear the original piece to this so people go out and buy it, ive seen old artist come back to do concerts, etc from this, everyone gets paid at the end

You're right. That WAS Bob James playing piano on this track. Good ear!

No doubt rap/ hip-hop will always be around, but my point is this: give credit where credit is due. If you got paid off of a sample, break a piece to the person that got YOU paid. Because, I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for them, there would be no you, from a musical standpoint. There's no question most of what we, as a people, have made has been stolen, musicaly, historicallly, or otherwise. It's the same way in Hollywood. Lack of originality leads to stealing.

My bad, I was typing too fast. Either way, he never listed Herb as a source. Interpolation, loop, or sample, they still have to be cleared by the artist in order to be used, don't they?
