Oh nevermind what I wrote about Merle singing it on some show...I got that mixed up with a different song, sorry. But I did look it up on google and according to that, Marty and his wife, Connie Smith wrote it. :)

Well, I don't know who wrote the song but it is an old one. I only know that because there is another video on here on youtube of Merle singing it on some show. That one sounds good too, of course! :)

Talk about takin' your heart out and stompin' it flat. I can't listen to this song with a dry eye. A great song by two great performers. Don't cuss a farmer or a trucker with your mouth full.

its not only the american farmer who is in trouble its every hardworking american. the steel worker the trucker the construction workers we are all being outsourced look at the number of foreign cars and products out their WAKE UP AMERICA buy american as much as possible.help save our country

Its entirely possible now. Energy costs have sky rocketed that it doesn't pay to ship to larger markets. Farmers would again return to diversified operations again growing crops and livestock with resources to maintain one from the other then rest sold at local/ regional markets. Its possible that we would see the reemergence of spur line railroads again moving crops from locally co-op elevators to larger town markets for export. Basically the return of the farm economy like the 1900s -1960s.

It's almost sickening to see all the shut down farms, including my fathers, where i come from in rural new york. Milk is finally up a little but its twenty years too late for them and the U.S. imports around seventy percent of its food just to keep good trade relations when hard working farmers are going out of business. Its terrible and i really hope the day of the family farm comes back. I sure do miss the life. P.S. buy local from grocery stands and farmers markets, help our people out.
