Best of luck to the folks of Galveston. You WILL be back.

I send my best wishes to the people of Galveston. You have my prayers for a recovery of your lives. May all of us Americans do the same, and maybe plan to give Galveston our tourist spending. Let's all find a way to support these people!

I have been there in 2000. I have an Aunt there and we spent our time in the baitstand store and did some fishing in the lake or beach..

Thank you Granako. Not only the statue, but have you ever heard of The Balinese Room in Galveston? If you get a chance, please look up the Balinese Room on the internet. I was just at the Balinese Room a few months ago. The Balinese has been in Galveston since 1927. Singers such as Frank Sinatra used to perform there. But hurricane Ike..completely destroyed it. The Balinese Room is the subject of ZZ Top's song.."Down at the Balinese". All of this..very heart wrenching.

I have been sitting here with no power since Friday night (after hurricane Ike hit). The power just came back on a few minutes ago. For 5 days...I had no lights, no air conditioning, no computer, no internet, no television (cable, CNN etc.), and no refrigeration. All food in refrigerator and deep freezer has now spoiled. First bags of ice did not arrive in Houston until Monday (three days after Ike hit). Statue at beginning of this video..now destroyed! Terrible destruction in Galveston.

The government and news agencies have been airing that everyone caught below the level of a third story in a steel and concrete building will drown and be washed out to sea. Most of the city will be destroyed.

Seeing pictures of a flooded Galveston this morning while Hurricane Ike was still 200 miles away is hard to see. Thank you for the great extra info. granako. Like Bakuji said, our prayers are with you Galveston. |
