Your answer is over-simplified. Freddie didn't hate kids. He just realized, that there was no place for them in his life, because his life was music. He was a very caring person with a great sense of responsibility. He cared vary much about his cats. Can you imagine how much he would care about his kids if he had them? He was a godfather of Mary Austin's first son and of a son of one of his friends. He was very serious in this role and very much concerned about them.
